How Do I Write When My Brain’s a Popcorn Machine of Story Ideas? 🍿
You know that feeling when your brain is buzzing with so many ideas that it’s hard to focus on just one? That’s me. All. The. Time. My mind is like a popcorn machine of plots—kernels of inspiration flying everywhere, ready to explode into full-blown stories. The real challenge? Figuring out which kernel to catch before it pops and disappears into thin air.
I’ll let you in on a little secret: self-discipline is my superhero cape. Without it, I’d probably end up with a hundred half-written stories and no finished books. But here’s the thing—I’ve learned that focusing on *just one* story at a time doesn’t really work for me. My brain likes variety. It needs a little breathing room to figure out what happens next in one story while I’m busy working on another.
So, I usually write two stories at once. (Yes, I know it sounds chaotic, but trust me, it works!) It’s like giving my subconscious a chance to do the heavy lifting. While I’m typing away on one tale, my brain is quietly piecing together the puzzle of the other. And when I switch gears? Boom—fresh ideas are ready to flow.
As for Nephilim Quest #5 The Book of the Dead - I am writing the final conflict now and have been tweaking it this way and that. But I’m almost there! Stay tunes!
Speaking of fresh ideas, I’m thrilled to share that I’ll soon be publishing the first two books in my new Magical Midlife Detectives series! It’s a women’s paranormal fiction series following Nora, a 40-year-old divorcée who joins a group of magical midlife detectives solving cases involving dark magic in the fantastical Village of Everywhere. I’m currently re-editing the chapters, which is why you don’t see the first chapters in my blog as before. After I’ve finished the edits (soon), I’ll be sharing the first chapters on my Substack blog for free—both to read and listen to as audiobooks! The rest of the books will be available for monthly subscribers. I can’t wait for you to meet Nora and her quirky team of detectives. Stay tuned for updates!
It’s a bit like juggling, but instead of balls, I’m tossing around characters, plot twists, and entire worlds. It keeps writing exciting, and honestly, it’s the only way I can keep up with all the stories demanding to be told.
What about you? Do you ever feel like your brain is overflowing with ideas? How do you handle it? Let’s chat in the comments—I’d love to hear how you keep your creative popcorn machine under control! 🍿✨
